Job Summary
The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers, vendors, and support staff (e.g. maintenance, safety, environmental) in the execution of a portfolio of engineering projects. The Engineering Project Manager plans, initiates, organizes, performs, supervises and audits internal and external engineering development activities and ensures that the work aligns with the engineering and development program objectives, and succeeds in meeting these objectives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with program management, operations, quality assurance, and other departments to align engineering efforts with company goals and ensure projects meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Drive innovation by researching emerging technologies, evaluating tools, and integrating modern engineering solutions into business operations.
  • Use modeling and prototyping (including 3D printing) to test ideas, minimize project risk, and support data-driven decisions.
  • Participate in customer interface activities to ensure products/services meet requirements and expectations.
  • Track and manage engineering workloads, including outsourcing work packages as needed to optimize resource use and meet deadlines.
  • Provide input for and review drawings to ensure tolerances, materials, and specifications meet requirements.
  • Analyze data trends using statistical methods to guide process improvements and risk mitigation.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering, chemistry, physics, and materials science to solve technical problems.
  • Maintain and improve cleanliness of work areas.
  • Schedule and coordinate internal and external resources for project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and prioritize activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, outlining tasks, dependencies, durations, and milestones using scheduling software (e.g., MS Project), and ensure alignment with project scope, objectives, and resource availability.
  • Monitor and report project status, track progress, identify delays, and adjust timelines as needed, providing stakeholders with regular updates and performance reports.
  • Identify and mitigate scheduling risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure compliance with organizational workflows and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Manage the requirements lifecycle (creation, documentation, verification, validation) to align deliverables with stakeholder goals.
  • Develop process documents (e.g., SOW, CERs, validation plans, SAT, FAT), and standardize scheduling practices.
  • Use Management of Change (MOC) processes to review engineering changes for safety, quality, and production impacts before implementation.
  • Mentor team members on scheduling best practices and software use.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged with complex situations and multiple sometimes competing priorities.
  • Understand and live by Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies.

Basic Qualifications
  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates with a degree in Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Business will be most competitive.  
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government.
  • Due to special regulatory requirements for defense ammunition manufacturing, successful applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment background check and undergo initial and periodic substance abuse testing (urinalysis).
  • 5 years of experience is required, with experience in defense or aerospace industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience in managing programs.
  • Must be dependable, responsible, and accurate and have the ability to deal with people effectively.
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills, and computer skills.
  • Good financial aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Engineering is preferred.
  • Desire certificate completion in a relevant discipline such as PMP from PMI; Defense Acquisition University (DAU); CQE from ASQC, or similar will differentiate applications. If not already completed, successful candidate is strongly suggested to pursue such formal certification within 24 months.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project Server environment.
Work Hours & Travel
  • 4X10 work week with occasional overtime on Fridays or weekends as necessary, to meet program objectives.
  • Up to 20% mostly US travel is required, normally a few multi-day trips per quarter.
