Works with: Mid-level Managers, Technicians, Engineers (Quality, Manufacturing and R&D), suppliers and Production employees

Location: Coachella, California is preferred; Camden, Arkansas, or Lillington, North Carolina is possible

Type: Full Time Monthly travel of a few days up to a week may be required.

Job Summary

Guides all Non Destructive Test (NDT) efforts, maintains, and updates NDT qualification and certification programs.  Acts on company’s behalf in matters regarding NDT, including NDT program, procedures, inspections, inspection results and interpretation.

Summary and Key Expectations:

The successful candidate will:

Lead an X-Ray team that supports a multi-site, multi-shift high rate manufacturing operation in a defense energetics environment.

  • Continually improve NDT methodologies for current requirements
  • Ensure ARMTEC Defense Technologies is ready to meet future business NDT requirements and regulations
  • Manage NDT technicians in a dotted-line or solid-line structure, depending on level of supervisory experience of the applicant
  • Hire, certify coach and develop NDT technicians to transforms Armtec’s quality inspection approach from reactive, requirements-based to proactive, preventive-based.
  • Develop staff capabilities and motivation
  • Assist in operation and interpretation of tests
  • Write test reports
  • Support multi-site Business Unit Managers with capital investment to insure automated inspection and defect-recognition capability is deployed successfully and efficiently across Armtec.
  • Maintain certification records in accordance with industry and business requirements.
  • Engage with DoD and Prime Contractor customers at the highest technical levels to ensure Armtec is well represented and respected our industry for product and process quality.
  • Ensure proper operation of all instrumentation, test and measuring equipment.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of X-ray and other NDT equipment and appropriate electronic image/record retention and storage.
  • Primary authority on all NDT equipment selection.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to subordinates in meeting schedules.
  • Provide oversight of all technical and compliance related aspects of NDT such as developing, qualifying and approving procedures, and establishing and approving techniques.
  • Serve as the Armtec Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Train, develop and certify NDT personnel to include the implementation of an existing qualification and certification process along with all related administrative tasks to assure current and future needs are met.
  • Administer the company’s relative training courses.  Maintain and update training plans as necessary.
  • Periodically review and assist in the update of certification examinations to ensure effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance of NDT program with state, federal regulations and customer requirements at all Armtec facilities. 
  • Maintain and update state licensing records for changes in equipment and/or personnel. 
  • Maintains the highest ethical standards.
  • Performs assessments and surveillance of venders performing NDT activities associated with Armtec’s products. 
  • Understands and lives by Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies.

  • The successful candidate must have experience and expertise in a variety of test methods, especially X-ray Radiography, and be certified (or rapidly certifiable) to Radiography Testing Level III.
  • Possess a current certification with ASNT Level 3.
  • Must possess manufacturing operation knowledge and experience relating to in-process inspection and final acceptance testing.
  • Must have demonstrated training skills, coaching, mentoring skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
  • Must possess technical skills, interpersonal skills such as good communication and writing skills.
  • Must be a team player, who can work independently and support all product requirements.
  • Must have a clear understanding of safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person

Education/Previous Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science discipline from an accredited college or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Quality/Manufacturing/CI/Test/NDT processes (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Radiography – NAS410 and ASNT Level III certification minimum.
  • Other NDT certifications preferred.
  • Experience as a Level III.
  • Direct experience in NDT, including interpretation of radiographic images.
  • Aerospace and defense experience preferred.
  • Current State or IRRSP Gamma/X-ray use card a plus.  
  • Must understand basic math, science, and engineering principles.
  • Must have general computer skills. (MS Windows, Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Must communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Must possess manufacturing operation knowledge and experience relating to in-process inspection and final acceptance testing.
  • Experience with maintaining certifications and compliance with state and national regulations.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization
  • Experience in defense ammunition and energetics is highly desired and will differentiate competitive candidates.

Work Hours
